J-1 Summer Work & Travel Program
Program Overview:
The Summer Work and Travel Program is designed for full-time post-secondary students who are currently enrolled at an accredited college or university. It offers a unique opportunity for eligible students to live, work, and travel across the United States during their summer break. Through this program, participants can gain valuable work experience, immerse themselves in American culture, and develop a deeper understanding of the daily life and traditions of the people in the U.S.
This cultural exchange initiative not only enhances cross-cultural communication skills but also fosters personal growth and global awareness by allowing students to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds in an English-speaking environment.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for the Summer Work and Travel Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be between the ages of 18 and 29

Possess a level of English proficiency sufficient to function effectively in a work and social setting in the United States

Be currently enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized college or university, pursuing a degree or its equivalent

Have successfully completed at least one academic semester (or equivalent) of post-secondary education prior to applying
H-2B Program
H-2B Program: Overview and Background
The H-2B Visa Program allows U.S. employers to hire foreign nationals for temporary non-agricultural work when there is a seasonal, peak-load, intermittent, or one-time need that cannot be filled by U.S. workers. Common industries that utilize the H-2B program include hospitality, tourism, landscaping, construction, seafood processing, and amusement parks.
Eligibility Requirements
For Employers:

Must demonstrate that there are not enough qualified U.S. workers available to perform the temporary labor.

Must show that employing H-2B workers will not adversely affect the wages or working conditions of U.S. workers.

The job must be temporary in nature—classified as seasonal, peak-load, one-time, or intermittent.
For Workers (H-2B Applicants):

Must be from a country designated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as eligible to participate.

Must meet job-specific qualifications required by the employer.

Must return home upon visa expiration, unless otherwise authorized.
Seasonality and Cap

The H-2B program operates on a fiscal-year cap, currently set at 66,000 visas per year:

33,000 for jobs starting in the first half of the fiscal year (October 1–March 31)

33,000 for jobs starting in the second half (April 1–September 30)

Additional visas may be authorized by Congress, typically for seasonal industries (e.g., summer hospitality or winter resort jobs).
